Let me say from a personal perspective that I recently experienced a public belittlement because I am a spiritual person, by someone I will call a proselytizing atheist. So I know it is difficult to just let it go; but for me it is the only way forward. Forgiveness is the way forward.
I offered three things in response. My response is for both the creators of the show and those protesting it. First is a quote from Seng-Ts'an, third Zen Patriarch;
"Do not seek enlightenment, seek only to cease to cherish opinions." He goes on to say that it is by taking a side, by having an opinion, that the "world is infinitely set apart." This is the state in which we as a world keep ourselves.
